Directors purpose -
In the film, The Hunger Games music is used substantially to support the theme of Hope and Rebellion. This is demonstrated when Rue dies through minor chords which makes the viewer feel sad. The tempo of the soundtrack during this scene is slow revealing the emotion and grief which Katniss is feeling. The dynamic of the music in this scene starts quietly and builds louder as the scene progresses. The director did this to make the audience feel connected to Katniss in an emotionally charged moment, where Katniss loses hope. The worked well with the following scene where District 11 riots.
